Introduction:

I love to bake!  I’ve always dreamed of quitting my day job and opening my own bakery or cafĂ©.  I quickly snap out of this daydream though when I realize that my love of sleeping in usually takes precedence over my love of baking!!  Perhaps a dessert bar would be more on my style (to accompany my sleep schedule, of course.)

When I open my bakery dessert bar, I will make the most amazing homemade sweet rolls, from scratch.  For now though, in a pinch, that isn’t always possible.  While homemade dough for rolls is amazing, it can be a little tricky to get used to working with yeast.  It is quite time consuming to let rise, and takes a bit of planning ahead.

These little sticky buns, that use pre-made dough, are a nice special treat in our household.  Preston and Nolan love when I make them and ask for them often!  They literally can eat the entire batch by themselves.  The best part is that they are on the table in 20 minutes with only 4 ingredients!

Resources:

  • 9 inch glass pie plate
  • Serrated knife
  • Measuring spoons
  • Pastry brush
  • Microwave
  • Large cutting board
  • Large plate (wider than 9 inches)

Procurements:

  • 1 package Pillsbury Crescent Recipe Creations – Seamless Dough Sheets
  • 5 T. Butter, cut into pieces
  • 1/4 c. + 2 T. brown sugar, separated
  • ~ 1/2 t. cinnamon

Operating Procedures:

Start by preheating the oven to 375 degrees.  In the pie plate, microwave 5 T. of butter to melt.  On a large cutting board, unroll the dough sheets.  Even the dough out into a rectangle shape.  With your pastry brush, lightly coat the dough with about a tablespoon of the melted butter from the pie plate, leaving about 4 T. of butter remaining in the pie plate.  Lightly spread 2 T. of brown sugar over the buttered dough and then sprinkle cinnamon over the entire surface.  Roll the dough lengthwise to form a long log.  Cut the dough into 12 even pieces.

With the remaining butter in the pie plate, add 1/4 c. brown sugar and a sprinkle of cinnamon, then mix well.  With sugar mixture spread evenly over the bottom of the pie plate, lay the sticky rolls on top of the mixture.  I find the best fit to be 4 rolls in the middle and 8 rolls along the outer edge, though I have tried a couple of different combos, as revealed in my pictures.  Bake the rolls at 375 degrees for about 12 minutes.

Once golden brown, remove from the oven and let sit for 1 minute.  CAREFULLY (!!!), cover the pie plate with a large plate and flip the rolls onto the plate.  Let sit another minute to slightly cool and enjoy!

Closing Remarks:

When you can’t find the crescent dough sheets, you can use a regular tube of crescent rolls.  Once unrolled, however, you will need to pinch the seams together as much as possible.  BOLO for the dough sheets and stock up when you find them!!  Let me know how you like your stickies!
