Introduction:

A few weeks ago, we had a welcome party at work for all the newbies that started within the last 2 months or so.  This was the perfect opportunity for me to try this new recipe – Caramelized Onion Dip!

This dip starts with a base of caramelized onions, which I recommend making overnight in the slow cooker.  Instructions on this can be found at here at the Kitchn Blog!  I like to add a tablespoon of balsamic vinegar in the last stage of cooking, while the onions are vented.  Of course, if preferred or in a rush, you can certainly cook those onions down via stovetop.

I strain the onions after cooking in the crockpot.

Resources:

Procurements:

  • 1 c. prepared caramelized onions – made in the crockpot as suggested above, or stovetop, from about 3 large, peeled sweet onions.
  • 1 c. mayonnaise
  • 1 c. sour cream
  • 1 t. garlic powder
  • 1 t. salt
  • Fresh cracked pepper to taste
  • Dash or two of ground cayenne pepper, to taste

Operating Procedures:

Mix up all ingredients and let sit overnight!  It’s that simple.  Fancy dip bowl, optional.

Closing Remarks:

This dip is a crowd pleaser and since it makes about 3 cups of dip, it easily serves a crowd!
