Time for holiday cheer! Of course, at the stores, it has been Christmas for 3 months….grrrr. I’m still a traditionalist in that Christmas should only be celebrated after Thanksgiving!! So, with only about 3 hours until December 1st, here is one of my favorites for this time of year – the Double Pom Pom Santa Hat Crochet Pattern!!
I’m sharing this pattern in 3 sizes: baby/toddler, child (first stitch count in parenthesis), and adult (second stitch count in parenthesis). This hat is very easy to adjust for sizes though to make as big or small as you like!
- Size I (5.50 mm) crochet hook
- Pom Pom maker
Brim: With white yarn…
Row 1: ch 49 (56, 63), join with sl st back into the ch 1. Do not twist.
Row 2: Ch 3, dc in each st around. Sl st into the top of the ch 3.
Row 3: Ch 3, *fpdc in the next 4 st, bpdc in the next 3 st* repeat * around, but finish with bpdc in the next 2 st and sl st into the top of the ch 3.
For baby/toddler size and child sizes, repeat row 3 one more time.
For adult size, repeat row 3 two more times.
Hat: Continuing with red yarn…
Row 5 (5, 6): Ch 3 and dc in the back loop of each stitch around. Sl st into the top of the ch 3.
Row 6 (6, 7): *Ch 3 and dc in each st around. Sl st into the top of the ch 3*
For baby/toddler size, repeat * for a total of 9 rows of red (12 rows total including brim)
For child size, repeat * for a total of 11 rows of red (14 rows total including brim)
For adult size, repeat * for a total of 12 rows of red (16 rows total including brim)
Turn the hat inside out, fold in half and sl st across. My ch 3 column ends up being on the side of the hat. Tie off. Weave in ends.
Add two pom poms to the hat, one in each corner.
