Introduction:

On this blog, I usually try to stick with recipes that are easy and quick to make after work, which is why Becky and I chose to name the blog Five to Nine Creations.  When I come across something really tasty, though, I like to share the recipe even if it does take a little longer than the usual 30 minute meal.  This low and slow grilled pork recipe has only 2 ingredients – pork loin and seasoning.  The flavor of the caramelized crust that forms on the meat will have you wanting more!

Resources:

Procurements:

  • 2 lbs. pork loin segment
  • 1 Packet of Good Seasoning Italian Salad Dressing and Recipe Mix

All scored up and ready to be rubbed!

Operating Procedures:

With a sharp knife, trim the silverskin from the pork, which is the layer fat which sits on top of the pork and runs lengthwise.  Next, to ensure the seasoning gets in all the nooks and crannies, score the entire loin on the diagonal in all directions with about 1/4” deep cuts.  Rub the entire packet of seasoning on to the pork.  On a preheated grill, grill the loin between 250-300 degrees for about an hour and a half to an hour and 45 minutes or until the pork is cooked to 160 degrees.  Be sure to flip the meat only one time while grilling, about half way through, so that the meat has time to caramelize.  Remove from the grill and let rest for about 10 minutes before serving.

Stick a fork in me. I’m done!

Proposals:

I like to slice this grilled pork against the grain of the meat, as thin as possible, ensuring every piece has at least a sliver of the crusted layer.  I usually eat it straight up, but by cutting it in this fashion, it would be awesome on a sandwich.

Closing Remarks:

I usually make this on a Sunday night when I have a little more time on my hands. With football season in full swing now, this would be perfect to start before the game so that you can serve it up on a platter by half time.  Make sure to keep an eye on the grill to regulate the temperature!  Things can heat up quickly!
