Introduction:

Oven roasted chickpeas have quicly become a go to for me since it is a new year and I decided that I need to take a ride on the healthy train! However, I am a  snacker, so I needed to come up with several snacks that will fill me up and make me feel like I am being bad, when in actuality I am not.  This recipe is quick, easy, and fits the bill! I have always liked chickpeas, so this is not a “diet” food to me, but just delicious! Oven roasted chickpeas have quickly become a go to of mine!

Resources:

Procurements:

  • 1 can chickpeas (garbanzo beans), rinsed and drained
  • 1/2 T olive oil
  • 1/2 t salt
  • 1/2 t garlic powder
  • 1/2 t chili powder

Operating Procedures:

Heat oven to 400 degrees.

Drain and rinse chickpeas.  Then lay them out on papetowel and dry.  I will often let them sit for 10 minutes on the paper towel to get them as dry as I can.

Put into mixing bowl and add in all remaining ingredients.  Mix well and put onto baking sheet lined with baking mat or parchment paper.

Lightly coated in olive oil and spices!

Bake in a preheated oven for 30-45 mins (depending on how dark you want them), stirring every 10-15 minutes.

Be sure to spread the beans out so they can roast evenly.

Turn off oven and leave tray in the oven for another hour until cool.  Then remove and store in air tight container.

Proposals:

There are so many combinations of flavors you can make with these.  I have seen them savory, like this recipe, and also sweet! That is on my list for next weeks experimentation! Leave a comment with any yummy combinations you come up with!

Closing Remarks:

You can make these as light or as dark as you want. I like mine extra golden and crispy so I leave mine in a little longer, but you can be the judge for yourself!
