I can literally not believe my eyes!  Just about a month ago, my daffodils were popping up out of the soil and now there is about 3 feet of snow on the ground.  With my husband out of state in training for work, it’s up to me (and any kind neighbors *hint hint*) to shovel.  So the procrastination continues with this blog post.  🙂

I love warm drinks…hot cocoa, apple cider, coffee.  Tea has always been my least favorite of the listed, but it’s quickly making it’s way up the list with this Rum Spiked Chai Tea recipe.  It was inspired by an iced version that I had a happy hour this past fall.  With the weather as such, this hot version is right up my alley.  Spiced rum, half and half, and chai tea! 

I will note that the chai tea should be brewed strong so that this drink doesn’t taste watered down.  I brewed mine from loose tea in a French press using 2 teaspoons of tea per cup of boiling water.  I let steep for about 10 minutes. 


Believe it or not, there is a cup of tea in there!


  • Tea kettle
  • French press (optional)
  • Mug
  • 1 c. strongly brewed chai tea (see note above)
  • 2 oz. half & half, warmed
  • 1 oz. spiced rum

Optional, but recommended toppings…
Operating Procedures:
Mix the hot tea, half & half, and spiced rum in a mug.   Top off with whipped cream, nutmeg, and a cinnamon stick as desired.  Drink warm by the fire with a cozy blanket.

Not 3 feet of snow on the ground?  Try it iced.

Yields 1
Hot chai tea mixed with spiced rum and half & half.

  5. Fresh ground nutmeg
  6. Cinnamon stick
  1. Mix the tea, half & half, and rum.
