Introduction:

You’ll come to learn that I’m a huge fan of infused liquor.  Fruit, herbs…candy?  Why not?!    I believe this idea was struck circa October 31, 2014 when our home was suddenly “burdened” with an abundance of candy.  Now, fruity chewy candy has always been my favorite, but Preston (my oldest son)…meh…he much prefers the chocolate – thus, leaving us with many forms of fruity sugary goodness, including my favorite, Starbursts!  In conjunction with the occasional score of the pink wrapper within the mini-2 pack, I quickly learned that the local convenient stores stock packs of “Starburst Favorite Reds”…Cherry, Fruit Punch, Watermelon, and of course, Strawberry!  Thus, this concoction, Strawberry Starburst Infused Vodka, was born. 

I’ve concluded that the best course of action is 20 Starbursts: 2 cups vodka.  I will confess though that I’ve stretched the recipe with a full 750ml of vodka to 20 Starbursts, and it is still pretty darn tasty, just not as sweet. 

Resources:

  • Air Proof Tight Container, such as a mason jar
  • Coffee Filter

Procurements:

  • 20 Strawberry Starbursts
  • 2 c. Vodka

Operating Procedures:

Place 20 unwrapped Starburst Candies into a sealable container.  Cover with 2 c. of vodka.  Seal the container tight and let sit about 8 hours until all candy is dissolved.  Strain though a coffee filter, back into an air proof container, to remove the creamy layer of the mixture. 

Proposals:

In addition to sipping chilled from a liqueur glass, I suggest the following:

  • Strawberry Fizz:  1 Part Strawberry Starburst Vodka + 2 Part Lemon-Lime Soda (Stirred)
  • Starburstini:  2 Part Strawberry Starburst Vodka + 1 Part White Grape Juice + Juice of a Lime Wedge (Shaken)

Closing Remarks:

I find the most challenging part of this recipe to be straining the mixture.  If handy, you can use a fat separator such as this OXO Good Grips Fat Separator to easily separate the bottom liquor from the creamy layer.  Otherwise, I find stirring the liquid in the coffee filter to be helpful.

Ingredients
  1. 20 Strawberry Starbursts
  2. 2 c. Vodka
Instructions
  1. Place 20 unwrapped starbursts in a sealable container.
  2. Cover with 2 c. of your favorite vodka. Seal tight.
  3. Let sit approximately 8 hours until candy has dissolved.
  4. Strain though a coffee filter or let sit in a fat separator before pouring to remove the creamy layer of the mixture.
